What OS(Operating System) are you using now? Microsoft Windows? Mac OSX? Linux? Ubuntu? Most of you must answer MS Windows coz the top-rich person Bill Gates invented it?? Me? Oh, yes, i am also using MS windows but that's not because i like it but i have no choice. If you want to use most of the daily softwares and games, you'd better choose MS windows.
However, MS is too good to handle his weight. It is fatter and fatter and become a monster hardware eater. Following the "beauty" Mac, MS starts to use lots of unnecessary, "charming" glass effect, drag-n-drop effect etc. Let's see what fancy Vista gives us, 600-800mb RAM used when booting up. Moreover, the compatibility problem makes new Vista not compatible with lots of softwares. Some people can use MS Virtual PC or VMWare to virtualize an OS but not all of people can do that. Funny thing is i saw someone bought a computer from retailer with Vista pre-installed but only has 512MB memory?!?!
Anyway, not like MS Windows or Mac OSX, some open source OS now has a good balance on usability and compatibility. For example Ubuntu is a really good solid OS i ever used before. It is built on Linux as base. You can download it and have a try here:

Yip, windows seems to need more and more ram to run ok. Am keen to look at alternatives next time I reload or buy another computer.
